Evan Shieh

Evan (he/him) designs and teaches culturally relevant data science and AI justice learning experiences to empower thousands of minoritized K-12 students to use research to make an impact in their local communities. Previously, Evan worked as a data scientist at Amazon building culturally responsive, multilingual machine learning systems. Evan’s AI ethics work has been published in leading research venues including Nature Communications, EAAI, and FAccT, and YDSL's lessons have reached over 200 educators and 20,000 K-12 students through district partners including NYCPS and SDUSD.

As YDSL’s Executive Director, Evan empowers YDSL team members to bring our unique skillsets (as a diverse team of educators and researchers) to support our shared mission to bring critical AI literacy and culturally relevant data science education to K-12.
